Ricky Hatton says he's gone back to ‘the old school' as he prepares for his comeback against Vyacheslav Senchenko on 24th November, live on Primetime. Hatton has been out of the ring for 3 years now, having not fought since his 2009 defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao. Hatton has been preparing for his comeback with coach Bob Shannon. "I did my best work under Billy Graham and Billy Graham had very similar tactics and training methods to Bob Shannon.” "I had most of my success with Billy Graham so yeah, it's back to the old school.” "It's nice to go back having nice people around you like Bob Shannon who's a wonderful man, who's a good, good friend.” During his time out of the ring, Hatton experienced a public struggle with substance abuse and depression as well as putting on a substantial amount of body weight. "It's very, very important because life has kicked my backside to be honest with a lot of personal problems away from boxing and then of course the defeat from Pacquiao.” "You know that everything really. "That was probably the most worrying part of the whole training. I'd announced my comeback but I hadn't sparred. And you know all those aspirations could have gone out of the window the first time somebody hit me on the nose or the chin?” Whether Hatton needs to make a comeback or is wise to comeback has been debated since the fight was announced. But Hatton is focussed and determined to succeed. "I've told everyone the reasons why I'm coming back, I want to make everybody proud, how I feel I've let the country down and let British boxing down.” "I've told the story, everyone's heard it so let's get on with it now and let me just throw it all at him on 24th November. Vyacheslav Senchenko (В'ячеслав Сенченко; born April 12, 1977 in Kremenchuk, Ukraine) is a professional boxer from Ukraine. He resides in Donetsk. His professional record includes 33 fights: 32 wins (21 knockouts) with 1 loss. He won the WBA welterweight title from fellow Ukrainian Yuriy Nuzhnenko on April 10, 2009. He became world champion two days before his birthday by defeating Yuriy Nuzhnenko within 12 rounds to win by unanimous decision in 2009. Since then he has only defended his WBA title three times. Viacheslav Senchenko lost his WBA world title to Paulie Malignaggi on the 29th of April 2012. From the outset, Malignaggi proved to have faster punches. Senchenko experienced swelling under left eye in round 2 and Malignaggi targeted it from there on. The referee stopped the fight when the swelling was worsened to the point where Senchenko was unable to see Malignaggi's right hand. Senchenko is known as The Ukraine Master. Richard John Ricky Hatton MBE (born 6 October 1978), is a British professional boxer and boxing promoter. He is a former WBA (Super), IBF, IBO and The Ring Light Welterweight Champion and WBA Welterweight Champion. After losing his last fight to Manny Pacquiao, Hatton put his career on a long hiatus, with rumours of a comeback circulating the media since. On 14 September 2012, after more than 3 years since his last fight, Hatton confirmed his comeback to professional boxing. Born in Stockport, Hatton was raised on the Hattersley council estate in Hyde, Greater Manchester and trained at the Sale West ABC. He was educated at Hattersley High School. His grandfather and his father both played for Rochdale and Ricky had a trial for the youth team. Aged 14, Hatton was taken by his uncles Ged and Paul to Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium to watch the second fight between Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank. Hatton had a short amateur career, in which he won seven British titles and represented his country at the 1996 World Junior Boxing Championships. His elimination in the semi-finals caused controversy. Four of the five judges awarded the contest to Hatton, but under the scoring rules Hatton was defeated as the fifth judge gave the match to Hatton's opponent by 16 points. The judge was later found to have accepted a bribe, and disillusioned with the amateur governing bodies, Hatton turned professional, aged 18.[ Hatton was based at Billy The Preacher Graham's gym in Moss Side, where fellow boxers included Carl Thompson and Michael Gomez. Hatton's debut fight was on 10 September 1997 against Colin McAuley in Widnes at Kingsway Leisure Centre. Hatton won by a TKO in first round. Soon he was fighting on the undercard of contests involving major British boxers, such as the two World Boxing Organization (WBO) cruiserweight title fights between Thompson and Chris Eubank in 1998. In 1999 the British Boxing Writers' Club named Hatton their Young Boxer of the Year.
